What great courage this man, this young man, has!

Third of Iraqi children now malnourished four years after US invasion
16 March 2007
www.caritas.org Vatican City — Caritas Internationalis and Caritas Iraq say that malnutrition rates have risen in Iraq from 19 percent before the US-led invasion to a national average of 28 percent four years later. Caritas says that rising hunger has been caused by high levels of insecurity, collapsed healthcare and other infrastructure, increased polarisation between different sects and tribes, and rising poverty. Over 11 percent of newborn babies are born underweight in Iraq today, compared with a figure of 4 percent in 2003. Before March 2003, Iraq already had significant infant mortality due to malnutrition because of the international sanctions regime. Caritas Iraq has been running a series of Well Baby Clinics throughout the country.
Currently it provides supplementary food for 8000 children up to 8 years and new mothers.
The Caritas clinics help the most vulnerable, and the health crisis they face is much worse than the national average.
Caritas works in an environment of high risk insecurity.
Claudette Habesch, President of Caritas Middle East North Africa works closely with Caritas Iraq:
“Caritas Iraq is working against this difficult background providing vital food to the most vulnerable children and newborn mothers.
Staff face great risks but still managing to provide medical care in a country where the national healthcare system has collapsed in some areas.
“Iraq has the second largest oil supplies in the world, but it has levels of poverty, hunger and underdevelopment comparable to sub-Saharan Africa.
“The last four years, but in particular 2006, we have seen life get worse rather than better for the ordinary Iraqi.
“And people are voting with their feet.
“Everyday 5000 people leave Iraq.
“In 2007, one in ten Iraqis is expected to leave the country.
“We are seeing minority groups such as Christians completely disappear from the country or leave their homes for safer areas.
“I have hope for Iraq that things will improve but that is because things can surely get no worse.”

My homecoming was surprising. It started in Italy where we were booed and had eggs thrown at us. We weren't allowed in the cities after dark. It was kind of like still being in Iraq.
The U.S. was a different story though. I don't tell people about it, because I'm ashamed of it. I had friends that would say stuff at bars when I got back and I would get free covers and free drinks all night. I also got a huge discount at Car Toys when my mom said I had just got back and was restoring an old Bug as a project to relax some. Some U.S. soldiers speak |
| Hermann Goering: "Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders; that is easy, all you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." |
|
| "When people yell at me about the war, I tell them, 'I am right there with you but you're yelling at the wrong person.' If a soldier says he doesn't want to fight in the time of war, desertion or disobeying a direct order from an officer are punishable by death by firing squad or by the officer that made the order. I doubt that this would happen in this day and age, but it's there [in the books] and it's scary. Either that or you just go to jail, no questions asked. " |

Iraq: the hidden cost of the war
Andrew Stephen
Published 12 March 2007
America won't simply be paying with its dead. The Pentagon is trying to silence economists who predict that several decades of care for the wounded will amount to an unbelievable $2.5 trillion.
They roar in every day, usually direct from the Landstuhl US air-force base in the Rhineland: giant C-17 cargo planes capable of lifting and flying the 65-tonne M1 Abrams tank to battlefields anywhere in the world.
But Landstuhl is the first staging post for transporting most of the American wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan back to the United States, and these planes act as CCATs ("critical care air transport") with their AETs — "aeromedical evacuation teams" of doctors, nurses and medical technicians, whose task is to make sure that gravely wounded US troops arrive alive and fit enough for intensive treatment at the Walter Reed Army Medical Centre, just six miles up the road from me in Washington.
|
|
These days it is de rigueur for all politicians, ranging from President Bush and Ibrahim al-Jaafari (Iraq's previous "prime minister") to junior congressmen, to visit the 113-acre Walter Reed complex to pay tribute to the valour of horribly wounded soldiers.
Last Christmas, the centre was so overwhelmed by the 500,000 cards and presents it received for wounded soldiers that it announced it could accept no more.
Yet the story of the US wounded reveals yet another deception by the Bush administration, masking monumental miscalculations that will haunt generations to come.
Thanks to the work of a Harvard professor and former Clinton administration economist named Linda Bilmes, and some other hard-working academics, we have discovered that the administration has been putting out two entirely separate and conflicting sets of numbers of those wounded in the wars.
This might sound like chicanery by George W Bush and his cronies — or characteristic incompetence — but Bilmes and Professor Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel laureate economist from Columbia University, have established not only that the number wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan is far higher than the Pentagon has been saying, but that looking after them alone could cost present and future US taxpayers a sum they estimate to be $536bn, but which could get considerably bigger still.
Just one soldier out of the 1.4 million troops so far deployed who has returned with a debilitating brain injury, for example, may need round-the-clock care for five, six, or even seven decades.
In present-day money, according to one study, care for that soldier alone will cost a minimum of $4.3m.

U.S. Court system brings U.S. to new low. New low in Benignity. New low in Cruelty: To the men, to the families, to the Iraq and Afghanistan countries and their people. The U.S. Court System — a new low in consideration of the word justice.
The case:
Nine men suffered abuse including being —
* Hung upside-down and slapped until they lost consciousness
* Stabbed with knives
* Subjected to electric shocks
* Deprived of sleep by loud noises and bright lights
* Grabbed by aggressive dogs
They also were subjected to sexual humiliation.
None was ever charged with a crime.
All were released after detentions of one month to one year.
Some were detained multiple times.
US Hogan threw out the charges against Rumsfeld ruling the five Iraqis and four Afghans did not have US constitutional rights.
And that Rumsfeld was immune from such suits.

A paralysis beam based on a 7.5 million candlepower strobe light from Peak Beam Systems is under development by the US Army.
|
|
Although details are sketchy, it appears that US government acquisition records call for Peak Systems to
"...design and fabricate a light-based immobilisation system/deterrent device and integrate it with an unmanned aerial system.
This will include any necessary medical research on frequency and amplitude modulation of high-intensity light that will cause immobilisation to all those within the beam."
The Peak Beam Systems device can apparently be pulsed with a strobe effect that has some effect on the human nervous system.
The Maxa Beam shown above has quite a range, too.
It can illuminate targets as far as 1.5 miles away.
The Maxa Beam is small enough to be hand-held, which is a vital factor in the US Army's selection of the device.
The ultimate goal is to mount the device on a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) for crowd-control.
The idea of a paralysis beam is an old science fiction favorite.
A early version can be found in the excellent 1958 novel The Mechanical Monarch, by E.C. Tubb.
In the story, the para-beam is also installed on a roaming device — the frightful metamen:
Curt skidded to a halt, staring wildly at the advancing figure of the metaman, and darted to one side.
Blue fire streamed through the air where he had stood a moment before.
It swung, lifted and Curt felt his legs go numb and almost lifeless as the blue ray stabbed past him, missing him by a fraction.
...Again the blue ray sent coldness through him, slowing his reflexes and chilling his blood with the touch of paralysis...
(Read more about the para-beam)
I also recall Robert Heinlein using the idea in his earlier 1940 story Methuselah's Children; in that story, he described paralysis bombs that delivered a paralyzing beam when set off.
|
|
This device also may remind fans of classic Star Trek of a device that appeared in the 1965 episode Dagger of the Mind — the neural neutralizer.

America calls its soldiers who fought in World War II "the greatest generation."
They are hymned by Hollywood, celebrated by publishers and politicians, hailed at every turn.
Heroes from lost golden age
And for their troubled descendants, whose military misadventures stretch from My Lai to Abu Ghraib, the clean-limbed victors of the "last good war" do indeed shine out like heroes from a lost golden age.
Yet despite the vast tonnage of celluloid and printer's ink devoted to their praise, what is perhaps the truest, highest measure of their worth has been almost universally neglected.
And what is this hidden glory, which does more honor to the people of the United States than every single military action ordered by their corruption-riddled leaders during the past 50 years?
It's the fact that in the midst of history's most vicious, all-devouring, inhuman war, only about 15 percent of U.S. soldiers on the battlefield actually tried to kill anyone.
Never fired their weapons
In-depth studies by the U.S. Army after the war showed that between 80 percent and 85 percent of the greatest generation never fired their weapons at an exposed enemy in combat, military psychologist Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman reports in Christianity Today.
Many times they had the chance, but could not bring themselves to do it.
They either withheld their fire altogether or else shot into the air, to the side, anywhere but at the fellow human beings — their blood kin in biology, mind and mortality — facing them across the line.
This reluctance is even more remarkable given the incessant demonization of the enemy by the top brass, especially in the Pacific, where the Japanese — soldiers and civilians — were routinely portrayed by military propaganda as simian, subhuman creatures fit only for extermination.
Yet even with official license given to the most virulent prejudice, even with the sanction of a just cause (self-defense against aggression), even with the incitements of mortal fear, of grief and anger over slain comrades, even with all the moral chaos endemic to warfare, U.S. soldiers killed only with the greatest reluctance, in the direst extremity.
These were not stripped-down brains with cauterized souls
These were not "warriors," bloodthirsty automatons with stripped-down brains and cauterized souls, slavering in Pavlovian fury at the bell-clap of command. No, they were real men, willing, as Grossman notes, to stand up for a cause, even die for it, but not willing, in the end, to transgress the natural law (implanted by God or evolution, take your pick) that says: Do not kill your own kind — and every person of every race and nation is your own kind.
You would think that this apotheosis of human transcendence, achieved, in the best democratic fashion, by ordinary conscripts — farmboys and dock workers, factory hands, bank clerks, guitar players, teachers, cab drivers, hobos, card sharks, college men — would have been inscribed on plates of gold and fixed to the walls of the Capitol for all time, a blazon of national greatness.
Just think of it: Soldiers who hated to kill, who went out of their way to avoid killing or even firing their weapons, who held on to their essential humanity in the face of the severest provocations — and yet still won battle after battle, marching to victory in history's greatest war.
Break the next generation of recruits
But far from celebrating this example of genuine glory, the military brass were horrified at the low "firing rates" and anemic "kill ratios" of U.S. soldiery. They immediately set about trying to break the next generation of recruits of their natural resistance to slaughtering their own kind.
Incorporating the latest techniques for psychological manipulation, new training programs were designed to brutalize the mind and habituate soldiers to the idea of killing automatically, by reflex, without the intervention of any of those "inefficient" scruples displayed by their illustrious predecessors.
And it worked.
The dehumanization process led to a steady rise in firing rates for U.S. soldiers during subsequent conflicts.
In the Korean War, 55 percent were ready to pump hot lead into enemy flesh.
And by the time the greatest generation's own children took the field, in Vietnam, the willingness to slaughter was almost total: 95 percent of combat troops there fired with the intent to kill.
Today, in the quagmire of occupied Iraq, the brutalizing beat goes on.
"Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, it's like it pounds in my brain," a U.S. soldier told the Los Angeles Times last week.
Another shrugged at the sight of freshly killed bodies.
"It doesn't bother me at all," he said. "I'm a warrior."
Said a third: "We talk about killing all the time. I never used to be this way ... but it's like I can't stop.
I'm worried what I'll be like when I get home."
Now high rates of suicide, mental damage and emotional torment
A few military officials are beginning to worry, too, noting the high rates of suicide, mental damage and emotional torment among combat veterans.
But the warlords of the White House — notorious battlefield shirkers who prefer to do their killing by remote control — have little regard for the cannon fodder they churn through in their quest for dominance and loot.
"Training's intent is to re-create battle, to make it an automatic behavior among soldiers," said Colonel Thomas Burke, Pentagon director of mental health policy.
Any efforts to mitigate the moral schizophrenia induced by this training would undermine "effectiveness in battle," he added.
Yet strangely enough, this "warrior ethos" has singularly failed to produce the kind of lasting victories won by those 15-percenters of yore.
Could it be that the systematic degradation of natural morality and common human feeling — especially in the service of dubious ends — is not actually the best way to achieve national greatness?

Dark Alliance — The Story Behind the Crack Explosion The "Good Guys" Who Can Do No Wrong
Profoundest suspicions of white malfeasance were true |
August 4, 2005 Interview taken by Celina R. De Leon Zechariah, 25, of Lynnwood, Washington, enlisted in the Army when he was 21, and was deployed to Iraq from March 2003 to January 2004 with the 173rd Airborne Brigade as a medic. Zechariah grew up in a military family; both his mother and father were medics in the Army. Zechariah wanted to work in the medical field as a nurse, but couldn't afford school. So he signed up to be a parachute infantry medic for the job experience, money for school, and a little adventure. Celina: What were you told were the reasons for the war in Iraq when you first began your duty? Zechariah: The only thing that we had really heard was that Saddam was hiding weapons of mass destruction and we were going to go and oust him and find them. I knew about the gassing of the Kurdish population in northern Iraq and was scared of being attacked while on the ground there with chemical and biological weapons. I highly doubted that they had any type of nuclear weaponry though, so I wasn't worried about that. I think if Saddam had that stuff, he would have shown it off with either a test or public display. He was a pretty arrogant person, in my opinion. Celina: Did your beliefs change once you were participating in the war? Zechariah: I think my beliefs had changed once we were on the ground. Within days we had seized all of the oil fields in northern Iraq and our primary mission was to protect them. Bush had said this war wasn't about oil, but there I was defending oil fields at all costs in the middle of Iraq. A lot of the piping and workings of the fields had been destroyed by the fleeing army and before we even started to help the people by fixing the power or water supplies, they had construction crews trying to get everything up and running on the oil fields. They say this war isn't about oil. How about they go and trade places with one of the soldiers that would love to come home, and see what's going on around the oil refineries and see how much work is being put into them and how little is being put into restoring power and water. My brother just got back [from Iraq] and said they still only have power and water for maybe five to six hours out of the day. I almost emptied my aid bag so they could have sterile catheters I also worked with a lot of the local hospitals. The whole time we were there, the hospitals kept getting worse and worse. They never had any supplies or new machines installed. Even some of the more simple machinery, like X-ray machines, were never replaced. Every time I went into one of the hospitals I almost emptied my aid bag so they could have sterile catheters and needles. I couldn't believe my eyes to see that they were having to reuse these supplies because they couldn't get replacement equipment. They didn't even have soap. All of this helped me to see where the priorities in this war were. Obviously, not in the people. |

Look at his ribs
This photograph is of a boy in a hospital in Hilla.
He lost his leg in a car bomb attack on pilgrims on Tuesday March 6th 2007.
The photo shows the overwhelming facts of life in the Irak created by the continuing American led war against the Iraki people.
|
|
Look at this child’s ribs. Then look at how thin his arms are.
This child has known a lot of hunger in his life. He’s suffering from two forms of long term malnutrition.
1. The kind brought about by not enough food over an extended period. In this case his whole life.
2. The more subltle and insidious kind of malnutrition — the “hidden malnutrition” caused by long term dependence on a diet deficient in the minerals and vitamins a child needs to develop normally.
In the Irak created by America more than 70% of the population are unemployed. They depend on food rations. Those food rations are not adequate. Not even remotely adequate.
Worse than that long after the Americans deliberately and knowingly committed the war crime of bombing civilian water treatment plants those plants are still unrepaired. Lots of no-bid contracts to American corporations of course. As you might expect because this is American occupied Irak, the work either wasn't done at all or was so inferior that the plants just don’t work
What that means is the millions of people are forced to use water that contains faecal matter. Millions of them don’t have enough money to boil the water to make it safe.
And as saying things politely often doesn’t seem to work with those of our audience who come from the USA I’m going to resort using the sort of language suitable for the purpose.
The corruption and inferiority associated with everything that America has done in Iraq means that millions of people have to drink and cook with water that contains shit.
This child’s hunger has been repeatedly worsened by water containing shit.
Even under the worst of Saddam’s regime the water was treated.
Everything that America has done in Irak has turned either to shit or to blood.
Amazingly there are still Americans stupid and self-satisfied and hypocritical enough to believe that America can do some good there.
Or undo some of the evil that America has already deliberately and knowingly committed and continues to commit in Irak by remaining.
These hypocrites think that Irakis and the rest of the world are stupid enough to believe the comforting American lie that this time America will behave like a civilised nation in a country that America has raped repeatedly.
This child has lost his leg, and suffered a life of deprivation because of American lies, and the barbaric way in which America invaded and occupied Irak.
When this child is sent home from hospital in a few days his wounds will be washed by parents trying to do their best for the child they love in water containing shit.
That water is America’s gift to them and their mutilated child.

al-Kindi hospital, Iraq, Monday, March 5
The second photograph was taken on Monday March 5th 2007 in al-Kindi hospital Baghdad. The crying child is having his face washed. He’s crying because he has been wounded and his brother killed.
The circumstances in which that took place were also created by the corrupt American government’s corrupt and bloodsoaked occupation of Irak.
The Americans promised they would protect pilgrims. As usual it was an American lie. Too busy having their surge to bother to do what they are required to do. To protect the civilian populace. Too busy unleashing mayhem on civilians to bother about protecting this child’s family. God forbid that a member of the new master race suffer even a scratch when there are innocent Irakis to do the suffering for them.
Here are some unpleasant facts about America in Irak:
1. Everything America does in Irak turns to tears, and blood and shit.
2. The Americans in Irak are far far far worse than Saddam ever was.
3. The Americans in Irak always were far far far worse than Saddam ever was.
4. The Americans in Irak always will be far far far worse than Saddam ever was.
5. Managing to be far far far worse than Saddam ever was is an achievement of which any country calling itself “civilised” should be profoundly ashamed.
Well done I hope you’re fucking proud of of yourselves.

Military Expands
...And it asserts the president's authority to deploy ground combat forces on U.S. territory "to intercept and defeat threats."
The document, titled "Strategy for Homeland Defense and Civil Support," was signed June 24 by acting Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England and is now a basis for organizing troops, developing weapons and assigning missions.
It was released late last week without the sort of formal news conference or background briefing that often accompanies major defense policy statements.
"The move toward a domestic intelligence capability by the military is troubling," said Gene Healy, a senior editor at the Cato Institute, a nonprofit libertarian policy research group in Washington.
"The last time the military got heavily involved in domestic surveillance, during the Vietnam War era, military intelligence kept thousands of files on Americans guilty of nothing more than opposing the war," Healy said.
"I don't think we want to go down that road again."

Former intelligence officer speaks out on coming U.S. martial law
Garden Plot was fundamentally that the Government would install a military government, imposed on state and local public saftey resources, with of course the addition of very active counterintelligence presence from the services - martial law. The Pentagon opened a complete war room to which field agents routinely reported by telephone. Resources from various agencies tapped phones and listened to radios of people they thought suspicious, just suspicious. In 1965 at the CI school at Fort Holabird, I was warned that reading the New York Times, as I did occasionally; would bring me under suspicion for character and loyalty defects. COINTELPRO was a program run out of the Justice Department, far as I can tell, designed to do "black bag" and "black propaganda" jobs, like the one they did on Martin Luther King. Again, it used Army and other services resources. There is much more to tell. This was the reason the Church Committee in the 1970s restricted the activities and authorities of the major intel agencies and services - which was a real service to the country - much wailed about by all those to who like the "black stuff" and considered the violation of the civil liberties of anyone just another days work. So, this is not a fairy tale. The goblin is back garbed in khaki and just as determined as ever to practice on you and I as they are soon to run out of countries to invade and torture, even if it is because we can no longer afford our military abroad. So, what will you do when they snoop and poke into your lives; set you up with local Gestapos; and simply harass you endlessly - to the loss of your job, reputation, etc? And, just as now, everyone will (1) not believe and (2) be too scared to raise the questions. What will you do? Which side are you on? |

Celina: How were some of your experiences interacting with local Iraqis?
Zechariah: We lived in a normal house in a neighborhood that was pretty helpful. They always told us that as long as we protected the neighborhood, they would do all they could to help us. Whenever we got attacked, some of the neighbors would normally know where they came from. They also gave us tips whenever they happened to hear of something weird going on. We worked pretty heavily with the Turkmen [Turk] populations and the Kurdish populations. Both were very friendly.
We personally re-supplied three schools in a Turkmen [Turk] neighborhood through family donations and personal contributions for the help they gave us in finding weapons, caches, and insurgent hideouts. They invited our whole platoon to a dinner and dance put on by the school of elementary-age students for our help. My brother said they aren't friendly to U.S. forces anymore. I'm sure we wore out our welcome in the past year.
Did you ever express dissent? Did any soldiers express dissent or not agree with the reasons for the war once they were actively participating in the war?
I never expressed any dissent towards anyone above me or towards a mission. My squad leader and platoon sergeant were both really outspoken people and when a command or operation came down to us, they were really good about saying that was a stupid or suicidal mission and find someone else to do it.
One mission in particular changed even our Company Commander's (CO) views. We were ordered to do a mission that was not Army protocol and would be dangerous if done that way. We were forced to do it and we lost three soldiers in two minutes. After that our CO was very vocal and active in how missions would be done.
They planned on seeing their families again
Orders would come down from some officer sitting in an office that had never left the wire and had no idea how the city and its people and the insurgents work. After that night, our Commanders and Platoon Sergeant were really good about "making slight" changes to plans so that it would be more safe for their men. They would get in trouble, but it came down to the fact that they planned on seeing their families again.
|
|
Celina: How did you maintain your strength to finish your service when you found yourself questioning the war?
Zechariah: I questioned the war from the start so the whole thing was hard. Especially after watching one of my really good friends that I had trained day in and day out with for the past three years die while I was trying to do all I could to make sure he made it home to his wife and for what reason? Kyle saved my life that night by taking fire that was intended for me. After Kyle's death, I just counted the days. I didn't really care anymore. I was saddened to know that so many more were going to have to experience what I had done and seen.
Before that, I thought about what I was going to do when I got home. Daydreams, lots and lots of daydreams. I'm really into motorcycles so I read lots of motorcycle magazines and made lists of parts to buy with my pay and mapped out rides that I wanted to take - anything that would take my mind off of the frustrations of being there.
After six months of being there, I knew that we were fighting a people that would never give up and we could never beat. I didn't blame them either. One of the Turks put it into perspective for me. What if one day, here in Seattle, I looked up and there were Iraqis falling out of the sky in chutes invading the U.S. He asked what I'd do. I thought about it and I'd be doing exactly what they were doing to us over there. |

|
| Celina: How are you doing now? Zechariah: I have nightmares almost every night involving Iraq and those that died. I have been working with someone that specializes in war PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder]. She has helped me understand the dreams and keep them from being triggered. They don't bother me in the daytime anymore. I wake up, think that was another bad dream and then go on with my day. For a couple of months I would only sleep for two to three hours a night and I finally decided I couldn't do this anymore. I've been going to school knocking out all of the prerequisites for the RN [nursing] program at one of the local community colleges and restoring a vintage VW [Volkswagen] Bug. I should be applying [to go to school] this fall depending on how my summer courses go. Celina: Are you getting the services you need to transition back into civilian life? Zechariah: Yes, but it is getting harder. For some reason the funding for my PTSD counselor has just been stopped and I have to go and meet with her to figure out what hoops I have to jump through now to get it reactivated again. It's supposed to be free for two years but about every two months things change and it gets cancelled and I have to do something different to go back and meet with her. Celina: Have you been reconnecting with old friends and family members? Do you miss any fellow soldiers you met in Iraq? Zechariah: I am back here with my family. As to old friends, I've found that I like to keep to myself. There are a few that I see every now and then, but I'd rather just hang out with my brother and my girlfriend who has gone to some of the meetings to understand what's going on with my head at times. I have heard from a few of my old Army buddies, but it's weird. I can't explain why yet. I just know that when I talked to the guys that were my brothers while in Iraq, I feel like a traitor or ashamed. Being their medic or "doc" was the best feeling in the world, but when soldiers die in your care and my platoon watched as I tried to do what they were counting on me to do, I felt like I lost their respect. I did do good things. One of the guys I worked on lost his right arm, but had it successfully re-attached and almost full use of it again. But just losing that one in front of everyone made me feel detached from them. I miss them, but I couldn't look them in the eyes or spend an evening drinking with them if I ran into them. I feel like a failure in their eyes, I guess. Celina: Looking back, is there anything you wish you knew, that you weren't told? Zechariah: I think the hardest thing that I know now that we were never trained for was the loss of friends, and to see them go in front of you. We train as if [we're] machines with no emotions, but once it happens and you see every thing unfold in front of you, with people you know better than your own family, it is really destructive to your emotions and morale. I remember after Kyle was killed, I sat in my sleep space and cried for almost an hour praying that this would end and I was on my way home over and over. I know now that it's easier to work with those that you have no emotional ties [to]. If I had to go back, I would tell the platoon that I got assigned to that I don't want to know anything about you. I'm here as your medic and that's it. It is really hard to work on those you know. I can do a better job of putting you guys back together if I don't know you. Celina: Is there anything you would like to add? Zechariah: I keep hearing that the troops' morale is high over there. When you have a high-ranking officer standing next to you prepping your answers, it's hard to speak your mind. We weren't allowed to talk to media unless a Major or above was with us to prep our answers and screen certain questions. I couldn't tell you of a single soldier that was excited to be in Iraq having rockets shot at them and IEDs blowing up their friends on a daily basis. Some of these guys are on their third or fourth tours over there. Do you really think they are excited to be in the 130 degree desert, living off of MREs, missing their children being born, watching friends die, praying they aren't next. President Bush, like Cheney, obviously has no idea as to what is going on over there and doesn't care. This whole thing about taking the fight to the terrorists has got me mad. He already proved to us and himself that Iraq wasn't a threat and that they had no WMDs and he is still trying to say they were terrorists and we need to stop them. They weren't terrorists until we killed off parts of their family. Now they are terrorists because they have lost something that the U.S. took from them, parts of their families. Celina R. ITALIAN SAYS 9-11 SOLVED
It’s common knowledge, he reveals
CIA — Mossad behind terror attacks By the Staff of American Free Press
Former Italian President Francesco Cossiga, who revealed the existence of Operation Gladio, has told Italy’s oldest and most widely read newspaper that the 9-11 terrorist attacks were run by the CIA and Mossad, and that this was common knowledge among global intelligence agencies.
In what translates awkwardly into English, Cossiga told the newspaper Corriere della Sera:
“All the [intelligence services] of America and Europe… know well that the disastrous attack has been planned and realized from the Mossad, with the aid of the Zionist world in order to put under accusation the Arabic countries and in order to induce the western powers to take part … in Iraq [and] Afghanistan.”
Cossiga was elected president of the Italian Senate in July 1983 before winning a landslide election to become president of the country in 1985, and he remained until 1992.
Cossiga’s tendency to be outspoken upset the Italian political establishment, and he was forced to resign after revealing the existence of, and his part in setting up, Operation Gladio.
This was a rogue intelligence network under NATO auspices that carried out bombings across Europe in the 1960s, 1970s and ’80s.
Gladio’s specialty was to carry out what they termed 'false flag' operations — terror attacks that were blamed on their domestic and geopolitical opposition.
In March 2001, Gladio agent Vincenzo Vinciguerra stated, in sworn testimony:
“You had to attack civilians, the people, women, children, innocent people, unknown people far removed from any political game.
The reason was quite simple: to force … the public to turn to the state to ask for greater security.”
Cossiga first expressed his doubts about 9-11 in 2001, and is quoted by 9-11 researcher Webster Tarpley saying:
“The mastermind of the attack must have been a sophisticated mind, provided with ample means not only to recruit fanatic kamikazes, but also highly specialized personnel.
I add one thing: it could not be accomplished without infiltrations in the radar and flight security personnel.”
Coming from a widely respected former head of state, Cossiga’s assertion that the 9-11 attacks were an inside job and that this is common knowledge among global intelligence agencies is illuminating.
It is one more eye-opening confirmation that has not been mentioned by America’s propaganda machine in print or on TV.
Nevertheless, because of his experience and status in the world, Cossiga cannot be discounted as a crackpot.

US to Develop New Hydrogen Bomb
by Ralph Vartabedian
The Energy Department will announce today a contract to develop the nation's first new hydrogen bomb in two decades, involving a collaboration between three national weapons laboratories, The Times has learned.
The new bomb will include design features from all three labs, though Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Bay Area appears to have taken the lead position in the project. The Los Alamos and Sandia labs in New Mexico will also be part of the project.

BBC — Thursday, 6 September 2007 UK jets 'chase Russian bombers'
The UK's Royal Air Force has launched fighter jets to intercept eight Russian military planes flying in airspace patrolled by Nato, UK officials say.
Four RAF F3 Tornado aircraft were scrambled in response to the Russian action, the UK's defence ministry said.
The Russian planes - said to be long-range bombers - had earlier been followed by Norwegian F16 jets.
Russia recently revived a Cold War-era practice of flying bombers on long-range patrols.
A Norwegian officer, Lt Col John Inge Oegland, told the BBC the Russian Tupolev Tu-95 Bear bombers flew in international airspace from the Barents Sea to the Atlantic, before turning back.
Two Norwegian F-16s shadowed them on Thursday morning and another two went up later, he said.
There have been several similar incidents in recent months, Lt-Col Oegland added.
"Norway is following the increased Russian activity in the far north with interest," he told the BBC News website.
He said the Russian flights were not causing alarm in Norway. "Our systems are adequate," he said, when asked whether Norway was bolstering its security in the area. |

9/11
By all accounts, the unprecedented events of September 11th, 2001 changed the way our country functions, and in turn, the world.
It is therefore critical that conscientious Americans, as well as people around the globe, understand these events in detail.
Unfortunately the official reports, including The 9/11 Commission Report and the NIST WTC Report, written by those working under the direction of the Bush Administration, have been proven to be elaborate cover-ups.
Film: 9/11 Revisited
September 11th Revisited is perhaps the most riveting film ever made about the destruction of the World Trade Center.
This is a powerful documentary which features eyewitness accounts and archived news footage that was shot on September 11, 2001 but never replayed on television.
Featuring interviews with eyewitnesses & firefighters, along with expert analysis by Professor Steven E. Jones, Professor David Ray Griffin, MIT Engineer Jeffrey King, and Professor James H. Fetzer.
This film provides stunning evidence that explosives were used in the complete demolition of the WTC Twin Towers and WTC Building 7.

EndGame — Alex Jones, you have done the world a great favor
It has taken me until now to view this great masterpiece that chronicles the planet's true history
But I am glad for this delay as my awareness of reality, and the events that seemingly must unfold to educate humankind, have come from sentience off planet — now with this movie the circles merge
A movie par excellence, it will likely be considered the most significant in the downfall of the rich and powerful who control the world and rising politicians already in their pocket — the imprisonment of all those who seek to bring forth this horror, this enslavement of 'New World Order'

by Sheldon Drobny Justice O'Connor's decision in Bush v. Gore led to the current Bush administration's execution of war crimes and atrocities in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places in the Middle East that are as egregious as those committed by the Third Reich and other evil governments in human history. The lesson is clear. Those people who may be honorable and distinguished in their chosen profession should always make decisions based upon good rather than evil no matter where their nominal allegiances may rest. Justice O'Connor was quoted to have said something to the affect that she abhorred the thought of Bush losing the 2000 election to Gore. She was known to have wanted to retire after the 2000 election for same reason she is now retiring. She wanted to spend more time with her sick husband. Unfortunately, she tarnished her distinguished career with the deciding vote in Bush v. Gore by going along with the partisan majority of the Court to interfere with a democratic election that she and the majority feared would be lost in an honest recount. She dishonored herself and the Supreme Court by succumbing to party allegiances and not The Constitution to which she swore to uphold. And the constitutional argument she and the majority used to justify their decision was the Equal Protection Clause. The Equal Protection Clause was the ultimate basis for the decision, but the majority essentially admitted (what was obvious in any event) that it was not basing its conclusion on any general view of what equal protection requires. The decision in Bush v Gore was not dictated by the law in any sense—either the law found through research, or the law as reflected in the kind of intuitive sense that comes from immersion in the legal culture. The Equal Protection clause is generally used in matters concerning civil rights.
The majority ignored their basic conservative views supporting federalism and states' rights in order to justify their decision.
History will haunt these justices down for their utter lack of justice and the hypocrisy associated with this decision.
